1942 Arsenic and Old Lace Signed Book with Boris Karloff
Starting Bid - $100, Sold For - $240
On January 10, 1941, the black comedy Arsenic and Old Lace, written by Joseph Kesselring, opened on Broadway to rave reviews. The play starred legendary horror actor Boris Karloff, along with Jean Adair, Josephine Hull, and John Alexander as members of the insane and homicidal Brewster family. Offered here is a hard-bound copy of America Goes to War (Columbia Educational Books, Inc., Chicago, 1942) signed by all four of those members of the cast. Each actor has signed the book in blue ink on a special autograph page towards the back of the book, with each signature grading "10." This book, as noted on the title page, was a special edition produced by The American Theatre Wing War Service, Inc., which may explain why it was signed by members of a Broadway cast. It should be noted that Adair, Hull, and Alexander later reprised their stage roles in the popular movie version of the play produced in 1944. The book displays the name of a former owner printed on a Dyno label (affixed to the front flyleaf) and is in Very Good condition overall. LOA from James Spence/JSA. SOLD FOR $240
