1909-1911 E91B American Caramel Complete PSA-Graded Set (33)
Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $2,280
Presented is a rarely seen set of all thirty-three Series B 1909-1911 E91 American Caramel Company cards, highlighted by eleven Hall of Famers. Issued by American Caramel over a period of three years, the E91 American Caramel Company set is classified as sets A, B, and C, with each series consisting of thirty-three cards featuring eleven players from each of three different teams. Each series is easily distinguishable by the reverse which provides a checklist for the specific E91 subset. (The "B" series features Athletics, Cubs, and Giants.) The E91 set is sometimes referred to as the "fake design" set because the company used generic illustrations, rather than actual likenesses, of ballplayers. Thus, the exact same drawing (with team change on uniform) was used for two or three different players in the set. PSA Grading Composite: Four EX 5: Hartsel, Marquard (HOF), Steinfeldt, and Tinker (HOF). Three VG-EX 4: Bridwell, Ganley, and Overall. One VG+ 3.5: Krause. Three VG 3: Collins (HOF), McGraw (HOF), and Scheckard. Four GOOD 2: Archer, Donlin, Shulte, and Thomas. Fifteen POOR 1: Baker (HOF, MK), Barry, Bender (HOF), Brown (HOF, MK), Davis, Devlin, Doyle, Evers (HOF), Hoffman, Mathewson (HOF), Meyers, Murray, Murphy, Reulbach, and Tenney. Three Authentic: Chance (HOF), Plank (HOF), and Seymour. The cards in the offered set, though in many cases technically modest in grade, present exceptionally well overall. Bold colors and crisp images throughout. This is a very attractive complete E91B set from one of the most interesting and distinctive of all caramel-card sets, highlighted by eleven Hall of Famers. Total: 33 cards.
