1943 Sherlock Holmes Faces Death Near-Complete Lobby-Card Set (7)
Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $600
Near-Complete lobby-card set (14 x 11 inches), featuring seven of the eight issued cards, from the 1943 Universal Pictures release Sherlock Holmes Faces Death. This was the sixth film, out of an eventual fourteen, in which Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce starred, respectively, as Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson. In this offering, which was an adaptation of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's short story "The Adventure of the Musgrave Ritual," Holmes solves the mysterious murders of two brothers linked to an inheritance. The title card displays a thin, light stain running through Rathbone's portrait image and is otherwise in Excellent condition. The remaining cards display a number of minor flaws consistent with their age and former use (nearly all of which affect the border areas), including, but not limited to, tack/staple holes and minor tears/repairs. Conditions range from Vg to Ex-Mt, averaging Ex. Total: 7 lobby cards. SOLD FOR $600
