1952 E. C. Comics Mad #1 CGC 5.5
Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $3,300
First issue of Mad, published by E. C. Comics in 1952, graded FN- 5.5 (cream to off-white pages) by CGC. Few publications have had the enormous cultural impact of Mad magazine. Mad began its long publishing run not as a magazine, but as a comic book. It wasn't until 1955, beginning with issue number 24, that the publication switched over to its current magazine format. Offered here is the historic, first-ever-issued Mad #1 comic featuring cover artwork by Harvey Kurtzman and interior illustrations by Wally Wood, Bill Elder, Jack Davis, and John Severin. When this issue hit the stands in 1952, no one could have envisioned the success and influence that would follow and that continue to this day. An outstanding and fairly high grade example of this highly desirable iconic first issue. SOLD FOR $3,300
