Circa 1934-1935 Mickey Mouse Watch in Original Box

Starting Bid - $100, Sold For - $840

Extremely early Mickey Mouse wristwatch produced by Ingersoll-Waterbury in late 1934 and 1935. The Mickey Mouse watch debuted in 1933, just five years after the character made its screen debut in the cartoon Steamboat Willy. The offered watch dates from the late 1934-1935 manufacturing period and represents the second version of the watch produced. The distinguishing feature between the first version in 1933 and the second version, offered in 1934 and 1935, is the position of the numerals "5" and "7" in relation to Mickey's knees on the dial. In 1935, the design of the facing once again changed slightly, thus allowing for such a precisely accurate dating of this watch. The watch features an image of Mickey on the dial, with his rotating arms marking the hour and minute. The second-hand disc at the base displays three smaller Mickey images. The metal band features the same identical image of Mickey on each side. Accompanied by its original box featuring illustrations of Mickey and other Disney characters on all six sides. The Mickey Mouse watch is one of the most iconic cultural items of all time. As the story goes, the Ingersoll-Waterbury Company was on the verge of bankruptcy in 1933, but the Mickey Mouse watch proved such a hit (11,000 were sold by Macy's in New York on the very first day it was released) that it saved the company from going under! The watch, which is in working order, displays wear commensurate with its age and former use, including light toning to the facing. In Very Good condition overall. The box (4.5 x 2.5 x 1 inches) remains in Very Good to Excellent condition. SOLD FOR $840
