1818 James Monroe Signed Land Grant - Signed as President!

One-page document, dated January 24, 1818, signed by James Monroe (1758-1831), fifth President of the United States (1817-1825). The document, which is both printed and handwritten, grants William Bennett 160 acres of land in Illinois and has been signed in black ink by President James Monroe (grading "10") and countersigned by the commissioner of the general land office. The official government seal, which retains some of its original orange hue, is securely affixed in the lower left corner. The document (13.25 x 9.25 inches) displays both horizontal and vertical folds, toning, rippling, and a few small tears. In Good to Very Good condition. Matted and framed together with a small photographic print of Monroe to total dimensions of 25.5 x 17 inches. LOA from James Spence/JSA. SOLD FOR $1,200
