1908 PC760 Rose Company Postcard Collection (9) - All Pittsburgh Pirates
Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $4,800
For more information about the Rose Postcard set, please follow the link below to a comprehensive article recently published by vintage-card collector and Rose Postcard scholar Jerry Spillman.
Magnificent collection of nine different Pittsburgh Pirates from the PC760 Rose Postcard set, one of the rarest and most beautifully designed baseball-card sets ever produced. Entirely new to the modern collecting world, the offered postcards were discovered in a barn as part of a group of twelve Rose Company Postcards (the complete Pittsburgh Pirates team set, presented in four lots in this auction). This collection consists of the following: Camnitz, Gibson, Kane, Leach, Maddox, Phillippi, Thomas, Wilson, and Young. The offered cards are all beautifully preserved. Bright and clean, with flawless portrait images and very light corner wear. All present in overall Vg-Ex to Ex condition from the front. The reverses are bright, having never been mailed and bearing no writing on the traditional postcard reverse. There is a two-inch long strip of adhesive (used to mount all twelve postcards to a display) present at the top of seven postcards, while the other two have paper loss present in the same area from removal of the adhesive, which would ultimately cause the postcards to grade modestly. These are extraordinary examples from this beautiful and rare set, which would make outstanding additions to any PC760 set, Pittsburgh Pirates, or type-card collection. Total: 9 cards. SOLD FOR $4,800
