1867-1891 Baseball Guide Collection (11)

Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $5,333

Collection of ten nineteenth-century baseball guides, plus one league constitution, spanning the years 1867 and 1891. Condition, as one might expect for publications of this age, is less than perfect, with three guides displaying tape repair to the spine and/or covers, and nearly all displaying tears to the covers. However, all of the covers are present with the exception of the back cover on one issue. Condition ranges from Poor to Very Good, averaging Fr-Gd. Please note that a grade of Fr-Gd is easily earned (due to detached covers, tears, etc.), and that the integrity of these guides remains very much intact despite their modest technical grades, which so often "come with the territory" with early guides. Beadles The Dime Base-Ball Player (4 total): 1867 (Gd), 1873 (covers detached, Pr-Fr), 1879 (Gd), and 1881 (Gd). Dewitt's Base Ball Guide (4 total): 1874 (tape on spine, Fr), 1877 (Fr-Gd), 1878 (Gd), and 1879 (Gd). 1890 Player's National League Base Ball Guide. This is a rare guide from the one-year-only Player's League. (Pr, with tape on the spine and heavy paper loss to the covers.) 1891 The Sporting Life Official Base Ball Guide (Pr-Fr, tape on spine and missing back cover). 1878 Constitution and Playing Rules of the International Base Ball Association (Vg). Total: 11 items (10 guides and 1 constitution). Reserve $200. Estimate $500+. SOLD FOR $5,333
