1946 Ty Cobb Signed Personal Check

Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $830

Ty Cobb personal check dated September 15, 1946, and drawn on The First National Bank of Reno. The check is made payable to "Cash" (endorsed by "Clyde Beecher" on the reverse) and is beautifully signed in black fountain pen, "Tyrus R. Cobb" ("10"). The check (6 x 2.75 inches) has normal bank cancellation holes and stamps, including one stamp that touches upon the "T" in "Tyrus" (does not in the least affect the extremely strong and bold legibility of the signature). Near Mint condition. While there are many Cobb checks (he saved everything and his family made literally hundreds of checks available after his passing, in exchange for a donation to the Cobb Educational Foundation, a charity that helps underprivileged children), a Cobb check is always a classic, and this is a particularly outstanding example. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $200. Estimate $400/$800. SOLD FOR $830
