1959 Topps Salesman Sample Three-Card Advertising Panel Featuring Warren Spahn
Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $593
Encapsulated as "Authentic" by PSA. Three-card salesman sample advertising panel from the 1959 Topps set highlighted by Milwaukee Braves Hall of Famer Warren Spahn. Salesman sample panels were issued for use exactly as their name suggests: salesmen would carry them around to illustrate to prospective vendors what the upcoming Topps series would look like in the hope of promoting sales. The front of the panels appears just like regular-issue cards while the reverse features a small advertising pitch about the new product in one position, redemption offer information in another, and then a sample card back (in this case Chicago White Sox Hall of Famer Nellie Fox) in the final position. Complete salesman sample panels have always been extremely desirable and quite rare as they were obviously produced in very modest quantities due to their intended purpose of advertising only to vendors. The offered panel is bright and clean with light, even wear to the corners and an area of heavy creasing along the bottom border which affects parts of the Brooks Lawrence and Warren Spahn cards. Extremely attractive Topps advertising panel that of course would be at home in any Topps salesman sample panel collection (and yes, there are a few brave collectors who have taken on the challenge of attempting to collect all the different years that exist of these rarities!) or would serve as an ideal companion piece to any 1959 Topps collection. Reserve $200. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $593
