1941 Play Ball Original-Owner Collection (44) Including 15 Hall of Famers
Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $3,851
Presented is an outstanding group of forty-four cards (twenty-two different) from the 1941 Play Ball set highlighted by fifteen Hall of Famers, including three examples of Ted Williams. These cards have been consigned to this auction by the family of the original owner. We have selected five cards to be graded and encapsulated by SGC. This collection consists of the following: #1, 2, three 3, three 4, three 5, 6 Hubbell (HOF, Ex), four 7, two 9, 10 Vaughan (HOF, Pr), 11, two 13 Foxx (HOF, NM 84 and EX/NM+ 82), three 14 Williams (HOF, EX 60, VG/EX+ 55, and VG/EX 50), two 15 Cronin (HOF, Ex and Vg-Ex), two 16, three 17, two 18 Greenberg (HOF, both Ex), 19 Gehringer (HOF, Vg-Ex+), three 20 Ruffing (HOF, Ex+, Vg+, and Fr/Gd), two 21, 22, two 23, and 24. The balance of the cards range in grade from Vg to Ex, averaging Vg-Ex, with the exception of one Pr. This is a very attractive group of cards from the classic 1941 Play Ball Gum, Inc., card set, with an unusually high concentration of key Hall of Famers. The equivalent SMR value for just the five graded cards (factoring in the two half-grades at the lower whole-grade level and not including the thirty-nine ungraded cards) is $2,420. Total: 44 cards. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$2,000. SOLD FOR $3,851
