1939 R334 Play Ball #92 Ted Williams Rookie

Starting Bid - $400, Sold For - $1,304

Graded EX+ 5.5 by BVG. Extremely attractive example of this key prewar card featuring Ted Williams in his rookie season. The 1939 Play Ball Ted Williams rookie has always been recognized as one of vintage-card collecting's great classics. The offered card displays a crystal-clear image of the "Splendid Splinter" in his familiar swing-thru pose, four strong corners showing only a hint of light wear, and centering approximately 35/65 T/B. The reverse of the card is clean, boldly printed, and centered slightly to the top. It is fascinating to note that the text on the back of this rookie card reports that "Ted Williams, one of the youngest players in baseball, has a great future according to experts." This classic rookie card is one of the key cards from the 1939 Play Ball set and one of the most popular cards of the era. The equivalent SMR value for this card in EX condition (there is no value listed for EX+) is $1,250. Reserve $400. Estimate $800+. SOLD FOR $1,304
