1933 R319 Goudey #181 Babe Ruth

Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $3,555

Graded VG 40 by SGC. Beautiful example of one of Babe Ruth's most classic cards, #181 Ruth with green background from the 1933 Goudey series. This is a very attractive example, bright and clean, with excellent centering and light, even wear to the corners. This card presents as Vg-Ex to Ex and has been downgraded due to an extremely faint pencil erasure in the upper right reverse corner which is almost imperceptible except under close inspection. The reverse is otherwise entirely clean and boldly printed. This card is one of the highlights from an original-owner Goudey set consigned to this auction, with the Ruth and Gehrig cards separated and offered as individual lots (all submitted by REA). The offered card represents a tremendous value as it shares many important elements with examples of a much higher technical grade. This is a quality card that is ideal for the collector who wants a beautiful 1933 Goudey #181 Ruth card, but is not interested in spending the many thousands (or even tens of thousands) of dollars an example in a significantly higher-grade would require. The equivalent SMR value for the assigned grade is $1,400. Reserve $300. Estimate $1,000+. SOLD FOR $3,555
