1908 PC760 T. R. Rose Postcard Christy Mathewson PSA EX 5 - Highest Graded!

Starting Bid - $2,000, Sold For - $7,703

Graded EX 5 by PSA. Highest-graded and extremely attractive example of Hall of Famer Christy Mathewson from the PC760 T.R. Rose Postcard set, one of the rarest and most beautifully designed baseball-card sets ever produced. This is an amazing card! Only three Rose Postcard Christy Mathewson examples have ever been graded by PSA and SGC combined (one SGC VG/EX 50 and one PSA VG/EX 4, in addition to this PSA EX 5). It is fascinating to note that the portrait used on this extraordinary card is the very same as that which appears on a number of other famous Mathewson cards, including 1902 W600 Sporting Life Cabinet, 1904 Allegheny Co., 1910 E103 Williams Caramel, 1910-1911 M116 Sporting Life, and 1915 E145 Cracker Jack. This is obviously an iconic and very popular pose! The offered card is bright and clean, both front and back, with a flawless portrait image, very light corner wear, and no creases or wrinkles. The card has never been mailed and has no writing on its traditional postcard reverse. This is the first Rose postcard of Mathewson that we can recall offering. This card has been consigned by the family of an old-time advanced collector who had this card, along with the rare Scranton players complete set offered elsewhere in this auction. This is an extraordinary example of one of the key Hall of Famers from this beautiful and rare set, and one that would make an outstanding addition to any PC760 set, Hall of Fame type-card collection, or Christy Mathewson player collection.Reserve $2,000.
