1910 E103 Williams Caramel Complete SGC-Graded Set (30)

Starting Bid - $5,000, Sold For - $15,405

Complete set of E103 Williams Caramel, comprised of all thirty cards in the set, including eleven Hall of Famers, highlighted by Ty Cobb, Honus Wagner, and Christy Mathewson. This set is almost never seen in complete, or even near-complete, set form, and this is the first complete set that we have offered in more than a decade. All thirty cards are graded and encapsulated by SGC. E103 Williams Caramel is one of the most highly regarded and scarcest caramel-card sets of the era. The SGC condition report is as follows: Three VG 40: Chance (HOF), Crawford (HOF), and McQuillan. One GOOD 35: Chase. Six GOOD 30: Bresnahan (HOF), Brown (HOF), Cobb (HOF), Mathewson (HOF, Nagy Collection), Rucker, and Thomas. Seven FAIR 20: Bender (HOF), Collins (HOF), Dooin, Jennings (HOF), Lajoie (HOF), Lord, and McLean. Thirteen POOR 10: Davis, Devlin, Donovan, Doyle, Ewing, Gibson, Jones, Jordan, Leach, Pastorious, Tenny, Wagner (HOF), and Wood. The E103 Williams Caramel set is easily distinguished from other caramel sets of the era by the bright red background highlighting each player's portrait. As noted on each card along the lower margin, The Williams Candy Company was located in Oxford, Pa., and this candy was very likely issued on a somewhat regional basis. This fact almost certainly accounts for their great rarity. When they are found, they usually have serious condition problems, which is not surprising considering that these cards were issued to children one card per package of candy. Assembled with particular care and attention to eye-appeal, this is a tremendous complete set of this scarce early caramel issue. Total: 30 cards. Reserve $5,000. Estimate $10,000+. SOLD FOR $15,405
