1909-1911 T206 Tris Speaker - Drum Back - PSA VG-EX 4

Starting Bid - $2,000, Sold For - $32,588

Graded VG-EX 4 by PSA. This is an outstanding example of Tris Speaker's classic T206 card featuring a very rare Drum advertising back. This is an incredibly high grade for a Drum back T206 as only five examples (of any subject) have ever been graded higher by either PSA or SGC (PSA only started designating advertising backs within the past few years, so it is possible that an EX or higher Drum shows as unclassified in its Population Report, but we would have no way of knowing). This is a particularly important Hall of Fame card in the set, as it is his rookie card as well as the only T206 pose of Speaker. To find this important Hall of Fame card with such a rare advertising reverse represents a remarkably desirable T206 front-back combination. According to, Drum backs are the fifth most difficult to find (out of thirty-nine), and many collectors would be happy with even a common example of any card, let alone such a significant Hall of Famer in high grade. The offered card is a magnificent example, crisp and clean with brilliant colors, excellent centering (slightly to the left), and light, even wear to the corners. The important Drum reverse is clean and boldly printed with perfect centering. This is an ideal sample of this incredible back rarity that would make an outstanding addition to even the most advanced collection. Reserve $2,000. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $32,588
