1909-1911 T206 Nap Lajoie with Bat PSA EX 5 - Overprint Error Back / Ghost Image on Front!

Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $1,304

Graded EX 5. Extremely interesting example of Nap Lajoie (with bat) from the T206 White Border set featuring a prominent ghost image on the front. The card will also appeal to back collectors as it is a Sweet Caporal 350-460 Factory No. 42, 4th Dist. N.C. with overprint; however the overprint shifted during the printing process and failed to cover up the "Factory No. 30, 2nd Dist. N.Y." line, resulting in not one, but two factory designations visible on the reverse. And, of course, Lajoie is a Hall of Famer, giving this card three notable points of interest, in addition to its outstanding condition. This fascinating card was found by REA in a small group of original-owner T206s consigned to this auction by a noncollecting family, which also yielded an extremely rare example of the Joe Tinker/hands on knees with Cubs printed on top of Chicago on his uniform. (That card and the balance of the collection appear in two separate lots within this auction.) Bright and crisp with four strong corners, exceptional colors, centered slightly to the left, and only a tiny, almost imperceptible wrinkle at the top border. Approximately half of Lajoie's image is "ghosted" and visible on the right side of the card. The Sweet Caporal reverse is clean and boldly printed. This is a very intriguing card that is sure to delight collectors of the various nuances of the T206 set. Reserve $200. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $1,304
