1887 N284 Buchner Gold Coin Tobacco Deacon White - Newly Elected Hall of Famer!

Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $1,541

Graded GOOD 30 by SGC. Extremely attractive N284 Buchner Gold Coin of Deacon White, one of the newest Hall of Famer members (elected by the Veterans Committee in December 2012). As can easily be seen, the offered card presents at a far superior level than suggested by its assigned grade. Clean and crisp on front with a flawless image, bright colors, excellent centering, and four square corners displaying light traces of wear. Boldly printed reverse with two areas of glue residue and toning (suggesting removal from an album at some point in time and responsible for the harsh technical grade). Buchners are unusual in that they feature generic illustrations of the ballplayers rather than the actual likeness of the identified player. This is an incredible example with outstanding visual appeal of this Hall of Famer from the Buchner Tobacco set, one of the few full-color baseball-card sets of the nineteenth century, and one of the most artistically interesting, distinctive, and classic baseball-card sets of the 1880s. Reserve $200. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $1,541
