1888 N333 S. F. Hess Newsboys League Veomans

Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $1,185

Graded VG 40 by SGC. N333 S. F. Hess Newsboys League sample card of Veomans, Sub., Rochester Post-Express. This rare nineteenth-century issue features ballplayers from the "Newsboys League," comprised of newsboys from eight different papers in eight different cities (Rochester, Cleveland, Philadelphia, Boston, Albany, Detroit, New York, and Syracuse), as opposed to major leaguers. The ballplayers are pictured in posed studio settings in full uniform. This sample is particularly strong, with exceptional contrast and extraordinary detail. Light, even wear to the corners and natural toning at the bottom border, and downgraded primarily due to a diagonal crease that is not distracting from the front but is far more visible on the reverse. The blank reverse is otherwise clean. A very attractive and high quality nineteenth-century sample-card rarity. Reserve $300. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $1,185
