1909-1911 T206 Bob Bescher PSA NM-MT 8 - Tolstoi Back - Highest Graded!

Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $8,295

Graded NM-MT 8 by PSA. Outstanding ultra high-grade example of Bob Bescher (hands in air variation) from the T206 series featuring the very scarce and desirable Tolstoi advertising reverse. This is one of only four examples with ANY back ever to be graded at this impressive level by PSA out of 242 cards evaluated to date. It is the ONLY NM-MT 8 example featuring a Tolstoi back listed on the Population Report, however, two entries are classified as "Unknown Back" so it is possible (though extremely unlikely) that one of these cards may also have a Tolstoi advertising reverse. Bright and crisp, with brilliant colors, four sharp corners, and near-flawless registration. Centered towards the lower left corner with particularly full borders. Clean and boldly printed reverse. An ideal specimen that would be noteworthy for its high grade with a more frequently encountered Piedmont or Sweet Caporal reverse, this card becomes all the more significant when one takes into account its uncommon and unusual back, ranked by as the eighteenth toughest out of thirty-nine within the T206 set. We have found that at auction cards from extremely popular sets with very low populations in the highest grades often sell for far more than SMR, and this is especially the case with classic vintage sets such as the T206 White Borders. The SMR value in the assigned grade is $1,200 with no premium assigned for the back. Reserve $500. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $8,295
