1961 Topps #406 Mantle Blasts 565 Ft. Home Run - Original Card Artwork

Offered is the actual original artwork used to produce card #406 "Mantle Blasts 565 Ft. Home Run" from the 1961 Topps set. This is a particularly noteworthy and impressive artwork belonging to one of the several cards devoted to New York Yankees Hall of Famer Mickey Mantle in the 1961 Topps set issued during one of his greatest seasons. The illustrated area of this original artwork measures 3.5 by 4.5 inches but is part of a larger artist's board measuring 4-3/4 by 5-7/8 inches in total. The artwork is in overall Near Mint condition while the artist's board displays normal paint marks as well as the pencil notation "2-3/8 x 2-7/8." The blank reverse displays an area of staining in the lower left corner along with pencil writing which reads "Griffith Stadium Wash. DC./Path of Mantles [sic] record Homerun." A small perimeter area of the artwork was cropped out on the final issued card. This is an outstanding original 1961 Topps flexichrome artwork from one of the most distinctive cards in the 1961 Topps set. Reserve $500. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $3,851
