Circa 1969 Topps "Fighter Planes" Proof Collection Including Box and Wrappers

Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $711

Collection of material, including original plane proofs, packs, and wrapper proofs, from the Topps "Fighter Planes" set. Not much is known about this set, which is believed to be a late-1960s Topps test issue. The artwork found on the packs and boxes suggests that the set would be comprised of twenty-four different planes which could be assembled and flown. This collection consists of the following: 1) Five empty five-cent paper packs, each of which lists a twenty-four subject checklist on the reverse along with a colorful depiction of an F-51 model plane, the set name, and the tagline "They Fly!" All Near Mint condition. 2) A flattened display box, illustrated by famed artist Norm Saunders, features the same image as the packs. Near Mint condition. 3) Two wrapper proof illustrations executed on thin paper. Ex condition. 4) Six glossy proof sheets, each featuring the unassembled sections comprising a plane, each for a different plane model (sheets vary slightly in size, ranging from approximately 7 x 9 to 7 x 10 inches). Near Mint condition. This is an exceptional collection of important material relating to a very little known Topps novelty test issue, which would make an outstanding addition to any advanced nonsport collection. Total: 14 items. Reserve $200. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $711
