1887 N288 Buchner Gold Coin Police Inspectors Captains and Chiefs of the Fire Dept. John H. McCullagh SGC NM 84

Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $415

Graded NM 84 by SGC. Incredible ultra high-grade example of John H. McCullagh from the N288 Buchner "Police Inspectors & Captains and Chiefs of the Fire Dept." set. This is the highest-graded example of any subject recorded by SGC out of 194 cards from this series evaluated to date. As is the case with many nineteenth-century cards, N288 Buchners are most commonly found (when found at all - they are quite rare!) in modest grade due to a variety of condition issues. Approximately 80% of the N288s listed on the SGC Population Report grade Vg or lesser. The offered example is outstanding in every way with bold colors, bright white borders, four sharp corners, and excellent centering. The reverse is bright and clean with boldly printed black text. This is a tremendous example that would upgrade any N288 collection or serve as an ideal type-card from one of the nineteenth century's premier nonsport sets. Reserve $200. Estimate (open).
