Goal Line "Pro Football Hall of Fame Art Series" Signed Card Collection (74) with 33 Rare Proof Cards

Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $2,963

The beautifully illustrated "Pro Football Hall of Fame Art Series" cards, issued annually by Goal Line Art to commemorate each of the inductees in the Pro Football Hall of Fame, were first produced in 1989. The cards, issued in separate series, were all limited in their production to just 5,000, with the limitation set number stamped on the reverse. Like the Perez-Steele postcards for baseball, autograph collectors quickly gravitated to them as the ideal format for collecting the signatures of Canton's elite fraternity. In addition to the standard numbered set, Goal Line also produced fifty proof cards for each respective player card. The proofs are identical to the regularly issued cards in every way except for fact that they were not stamped with a standard limitation set number. Instead, the proof cards feature a special "Proof" stamp on the reverse that displayed the proof number (1-50) for that particular card. Offered here is a collection of seventy-four signed cards, representing forty-seven different players, from that popular issue, including thirty-three rare proof cards. The thirty-three proof cards in this grouping, with number of cards for each player (if more than one) noted in parenthesis, are those of Bart Starr (3), Tex Schramm, Andy Robustelli, Jim Taylor, Bill Walsh, Larry Little, Don Maynard, Mike Ditka (4), Paul Brown (10), and Sammy Baugh (10). The forty-one standard-edition cards in the collection (from various set numbers) are those of Paul Hornung, "Buck" Buchanan, Joe Perry, Lance Alworth, Sam Huff, Willie Wood, Paul Warfield, Jim Parker, Bobby Mitchell, Otto Graham, Mel Blount, Bobby Bell, Jim Ringo, Charley Trippi, George McAfee, Frank Gatski, Elroy Hirsch, Tony Canadeo, John Henry Johnson (2), Yale Lary, Ray Nitschke, Fred Biletnikoff, Lou Groza, John Hannah, Marion Motley, Raymond Berry, Art Donovan, Tom Fears, Pete Phios, Clyde Turner, Dick Lane, Y. A. Tittle, Ollie Matson, Bobby Bell, Jan Stenerud, Roger Staubach, Dick Butkus (2), Chuck Bednarik, and John Riggins. All of the signatures, penned in a variety of inks (mainly blue or black Sharpie), appear on the front and grade "9" or "10." Near Mint condition overall. Total: 74 signed cards. LOA from James Spence/JSA.Reserve $300. Estimate $1,000+. SOLD FOR $2,963
