Circa 1948 Honus Wagner Single-Signed Baseball
Starting Bid - $500.00, Sold For - $11,850.00
Official National League (Frick) ball signed by Hall of Fame shortstop Honus Wagner. The legendary "Flying Dutchman" has signed the ball in blue ink across the sweet spot, with the signature grading "8/9." Based upon the manufacturing label, this ball appears to have been produced between 1946 and 1951. Wagner was a coach with the Pirates from 1933 through 1951, so this ball was almost certainly signed during his final days in a Major League uniform. Wagner, who was one of the first five inductees into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1936, died in 1955 at the age of eighty-one. The ball displays a number of minor surface blemishes, including abrasions. The manufacturer's labels are faded, but legible. In Good to Very Good condition. This is an outstanding Wagner single, with the quality of the signature more than compensating for the ball's mid-grade appearance. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $500. Estimate $2,000+.
