1937 New York Yankees Team-Signed Display with Gehrig and DiMaggio

Starting Bid - $500.00, Sold For - $2,014.50

Vintage team-signed sheet featuring the black fountain-pen signatures of the following twenty-two members of the 1937 World Champion New York Yankees: Gehrig ("10"), Dimaggio ("9"), Dickey, Ruffing, Lazzeri, Henrich, Andrews, Fletcher (coach), Saltzgaver, Hoag, Rolfe, Powell, Makosky, Wicker, Murphy, Hadley, Pearson, Heffner, Jorgens, Glenn, Selkirk, and Crosetti. The signatures of manager Joe McCarthy, Lefty Gomez, and Pat Malone have been deemed "secretarial" signatures by JSA. Signatures range from "7" to "10," averaging "9." This piece was obviously signed late in the season, as the Yankees purchased Andrews' contract from the Cleveland Indians on August 14th. Powered by DiMaggio's league-leading 46 home runs and 167 RBI and Gehrig's equally impressive totals of 37 home runs and 159 RBI, the Yankees easily captured their second consecutive World Championship (of an eventual four) in 1937. The irregularly cut sheet (5 x 11 inches at its widest dimensions) was originally mounted onto a heavier cardboard backing and displayed a number of light-to-moderate creases, small tears, and a few light areas of discoloration. The sheet was later professionally removed from its original cardboard mount and backed with conservation materials, which have ameliorated many of the original flaws. In Very Good condition overall. The sheet has been decoratively mounted and framed within a "pinstripe" framed display that also features photos of Gehrig and DiMaggio, as well as a descriptive plaque. Total dimensions: 21.5 x 22.5 inches. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$1,500. SOLD FOR $2,014.50
