1889 N29 Allen & Ginter Complete Set (50 cards)
Starting Bid - $1,000.00, Sold For - $7,110.00
Complete fifty-card set of N29 Allen & Ginter "World's Champions" second series. N29 Allen & Ginter "World's Champions" have long been recognized as one of the most beautiful of all nineteenth-century tobacco-card issues. The set features champions and stars of the day from a wide variety of sports. Key to the set is the inclusion of six baseball players, among them Hall of Famer Buck Ewing. Among this complete set's many high-grade cards are a few incredible "blazers" that would literally be at home in the finest N29 set in the world. The entire set is graded and encapsulated by SGC (all submitted by REA). SGC grading composite: NM 84 (5 cards): Carter, Crist, Getzin (baseball), Lange, and Murphy. EX/NM 80 (5 cards): Albert, Hill, Ryan (baseball), Temple, and Wood. EX+ 70 (3 cards): Havlin, Ives, and LaBlanche. EX 60 (15 cards): Dwight, East, Edwards, Fitzgerald, Fogarty (baseball), Ford, George, McCormick, McGee, Paulsen, Pettitt, Rowe, Sears, Slocum, and Stone. VG/EX+ 55 (4 cards): Crocker, Cummings, Myers, and Ray. VG/EX 50 (2 cards): Ross and Webb. VG+ 45 (3 cards): Barry, Boyton, and Daly. VG 40 (6 cards): Bauer, Clarke, Ewing (baseball), Harradon, O'Connor, and Queckberner. GOOD+ 35 (1 card): Duffy. GOOD 30 (4 cards): Bibby, Miller (baseball), Morrell (baseball), and Page. Authentic (2 cards): Kerrigan and Murphy. Almost all of the few lower-graded cards have a far superior appearance than suggested by their technically accurate assigned grades. This is a rare opportunity to acquire a high-quality complete set of N29 Allen & Ginter. The equivalent SMR value for just the six baseball players (the only subjects for which an SMR listing exists) is $2,875. Total: 50 cards. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,500++. SOLD FOR $7,110.00
