1933 New York Yankees Team-Signed Ball with Ruth, Gehrig, and Seven Other Hall of Famers!

Starting Bid - $2,500.00, Sold For - $8,295.00

Official American League (Harridge) ball signed in black fountain pen by the following eighteen members of the 1933 New York Yankees: Ruth (ss; "7"), Gehrig ("8/9"), Combs, Lazerri, Dickey, Sewell, Gomez, Pennock, Ruffing, Chapman, Herr (scout), Lary, Brennan, Farrell, Van Atta, Byrd, Walker, and MacFayden. All of the signatures are fairly uniform in grade, averaging "7/8." The notation "1932" is written in vintage black fountain pen on the sweet spot directly below Ruth's signature. That notation appears to be erroneous, as both Van Atta and Brennan were not on the 1932 Yankees roster. However, it is conceivable that this ball may have been signed in spring training of 1932 (Van Atta and Brennan were probably in Yankees camp that spring but failed to make the team; Brennan played with the Newark Bears in 1932, which was a Yankees AA farm club; Van Atta played with the St. Paul Saints in 1932, which was an unaffiliated AA club). It might also explain the presence of Yankee scout Eddie Herr's signature on the ball. If this ball were signed in 1932 then it marks the final World Championship season for Babe Ruth, which culminated in his famous "Called Shot" in Game 3 of the World Series against Chicago. Regardless of its year, this is an outstanding New York Yankees team-signed ball from the early 1930s, featuring nine future Hall of Famers. The ball is moderately toned, but all of the manufacturer's stampings remain extremely bold. A few tiny abrasions are evident, most noticeably affecting the signature of Doc Farrell. While technically in Very Good to Excellent condition, the ball displays as Excellent and would make a welcome addition to any high-grade team-signed ball collection. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $2,500. Estimate $10,000+.
