1933 R319 Goudey #234 Carl Hubbell PSA NM-MT 8

Starting Bid - $500.00, Sold For - $1,659.00

For more information about the assembly and the condition of the PSA-graded complete 1933 Goudey set that is consigned to this auction (of which this is a part) and which has been broken down into 110 smaller lots, please visit this link which provides the introduction to the set that appears in the printed catalog:

Graded NM-MT 8 by PSA. Of the 437 examples graded by PSA, thirty-three have been graded at this level, and only six examples have ever been graded higher. Striking high-grade example of this classic card of Hall of Fame pitcher Carl Hubbell from the 1933 Goudey series. The card exhibits a particularly bright, bold red background. Centered slightly to the left with bright, oversize borders. Crisp and clean, both front and back (with hint of ink bleed/wet sheet transfer noticeable on the reverse and mentioned for the sake of accuracy). Hubbell was one of baseball's greatest pitchers; he will always be remembered for his five consecutive strikeouts of Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Jimmie Foxx, Al Simmons, and Joe Cronin in the second Major League All-Star Game in 1934. This is a very attractive, extremely high-grade PSA example of one of Carl Hubbell's most classic cards and one that would be a significant addition to virtually any 1933 Goudey PSA Registry set or Hall of Fame collection. SMR is $2,250. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$1,500+. SOLD FOR $1,659.00
