1964 Topps Rookie Banquet #12 1963 Rookie All-Stars with Pete Rose SGC NM/MT+ 92

Starting Bid - $500.00, Sold For - $2,014.50

Graded NM/MT+ 92 by SGC. Presented is a stunning ultra high-grade example of the rare 1964 Topps Rookie Banquet card featuring Pete Rose (and other members of the 1963 Topps Rookie All-Star team). This is, in fact, the only example of this rarity ever graded by SGC to date. The 1964 Topps Rookie All-Star Banquet set was only distributed to guests attending Topps' 1964 annual dinner honoring the Major League recipients of Topps' rookie all-star team awards. In a novel approach that year, Topps decided to abandon the traditional dinner program and instead produced this card set, which was distributed as a special keepsake to attendees. Each of the thirty-six cards in the set is designed as if it were a "page" of a program and is numbered in the lower right corner. All of these black-and-white cards are printed on quality card stock, and are highlighted by either red or light blue graphics, with the exception of the "front cover" and "back cover" cards (which are multicolor). The offered example, the key card of the set, is in exceptional high-grade, clean and crisp, with near-perfect centering, and sharp corners. The blank reverse is also entirely clean. A slight touch to the bottom right corner (and maybe centering a degree or two better) is perhaps all that holds this card back from MINT. This Topps Rookie Award All-Star Banquet card, in addition to being the key to the set, is one of the rarest, most unusual, and significant of all Pete Rose cards. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000++.
