1963 Topps #537 Pete Rose Rookie SGC NM/MT 88
Starting Bid - $500.00, Sold For - $2,014.50
Graded NM/MT 88 by SGC. Stunning ultra high-grade example of Pete Rose's rookie card, the key card to the 1963 Topps set, and one of the 1960s' most famous and noteworthy cards. The "Lionel Carter Collection" designation on this card is of special note as it refers to the fact that this card was part of the collection of Lionel Carter, one of organized card-collecting's most legendary pioneers. Because of the year of issue of this card, we know that Lionel Carter personally purchased this card directly from an unopened pack in 1963, and made sure it was protected from all elements and perfectly stored. Fifty years later, it looks exactly as it did when pulled from the pack by Lionel Carter! The 1963 Topps issue is extremely condition-sensitive due to its flush-to-the-border design. The offered example is pack-fresh (literally!) with four sharp corners, bright colors, a flawless image, no chipping to the extreme edges of the condition-sensitive blue border, and with centering very slightly to the right (approximately 60/40 L/R). A spectacular example of this most sought-after modern baseball-card classic in Nr/Mt-Mt condition. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$1,500. SOLD FOR $2,014.50
