1963 Fleer Complete Set Including Checklist (67) Plus 1961-1962 Fleer Partial Set (70)

Starting Bid - $300.00, Sold For - $2,133.00

The 1963 Fleer set is considered by many to be among the most attractive as well as significant issues of the early 1960s. These cards have long been a special favorite of collectors, and with good reason: They are far rarer than Topps issues from the era; they are unusual; they have a great significance to the history of the "bubble-gum card wars"; and the set is relatively small and includes so many great stars from the golden era of the early 1960s. The fact that this set is very challenging to collect in high grade, and has a rare checklist card which is extremely difficult to find in high grade, gives this set a mystique and all-the-greater appeal to serious collectors. This lot features a complete 67-card set of 1963 Fleer baseball collected by our consignor in the year of issue. We have selected three cards to be graded and encapsulated by SGC. The set grades 60% Nr/Mt to Nr/Mt-Mt, 25% Ex-Mt, and 15% lesser (all due to centering with exception of the marked checklist). Keys: #4 Robinson (Nr/Mt+), 5 Mays (SGC NM 84), 8 Yastrzemski (SGC NM/MT 88), 32 Santo (Nr/Mt), 41 Drysdale (Ex+), 42 Koufax (Ex), 43 Wills RC (Ex), 45 Spahn (Nr/Mt), 46 Adcock SP (Ex-Mt), 56 Clemente (SGC NM+ 86), 59 Mazeroski (Ex-Mt), 61 Gibson (Nr/Mt-Mt), 64 Cepeda (Nr/Mt), and Checklist (checked in blue ink, otherwise Ex-Mt). Also included: 1961-1962 Fleer All-Time Greats Partial Set (70 of 154 cards). 30% NM, 60% Ex-Mt, and 10% lesser. All cards are from the first series (70 of 88 cards). Very crisp and attractive collection of cards from two desirable Fleer issues saved for decades by the original owner. The equivalent SMR value of the three graded cards exceeds $600 (the Clemente has been calculated at the lower whole grade). Total: 137 cards. Reserve $300. Estimate $500/$1,000.
