1955 Bowman Complete Set (320)

Starting Bid - $1,000.00, Sold For - $3,258.75

14% Nr/Mt or better, 70% range from Ex to Ex-Mt, and 16% Vg to Vg-Ex with a few lesser. Extremely attractive (and for this set very high grade) complete set of 320 cards highlighted by many Hall of Famers, including Mantle, Aaron, Mays, Kaline, and Banks. This is a carefully assembled complete set, virtually crease-free, with even the lower-graded cards downgraded almost exclusively for centering or honest corner wear. Twenty-seven cards are graded by SGC. Keys: #1 Wilhelm (Ex-Mt), 10 Rizzuto (Ex+), 22 Campanella (EX 60), 23 Kaline (EX+ 70), 33 Fox (Vg-Ex), 37 Reese (Vg-Ex+), 38 Wynn (Ex-Mt), 59 Ford (EX 60), 60 Slaughter (NM 84), 65 Zimmer RC (Ex), 68 Howard RC (Ex-Mt), 103 Mathews (NM 84), 130 Ashburn (Ex), 134 Feller (Ex+), 158 Hodges (Ex), 168 Berra (Vg-Ex+), 171 Roberts (Vg+), 179 Aaron (EX/NM 80), 184 Mays (EX+ 70), 191 Lemon (Ex), 197 Kiner (Ex), 202 Mantle (EX/NM 80), and 242 Banks (EX/NM 80). Other graded cards: Eight NM-MT 88: #49, 173, 177, 183, 203, 214, 259, and 264. Four NM+ 86: #20, 205, 235 Paparella (Umpire), and 253. Five NM 84: #4, 12, 18, 53, and 246 Bauer. One EX 60: #265 Barlick (Umpire). The 1955 Bowman cards (Bowman's final baseball-card issue) have always been very popular due to their classic "television" style and inclusion of so many stars. The flush-to-the-border wood-grain design of this issue makes them very susceptible to corner and edge wear, and very difficult to assemble as a complete set in high grade. Overall a very sharp looking complete set, with only a few problem cards. This is the type of vintage set that to so many collectors represents the very best value. The equivalent SMR value of just the twenty-seven graded cards is $2,105. Total: 320 cards. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000/$3,000+.
