1953 Topps Complete Set (274)

Starting Bid - $1,000.00, Sold For - $7,702.50

36% Ex-Mt, 55% Ex, and 9% Vg-Ex (includes five lesser). This is a very impressive and carefully assembled complete set of 1953 Topps, highlighted by extremely attractive examples of all the key cards to the set, including #82 Mickey Mantle. Each card in this set has been beautifully preserved throughout the years, maintaining all of the original gloss and bold colors as were present in the year of issue. Many cards have been technically downgraded due to light handling wear in the corners and along the delicate colored nameplate at the bottom of each card. This is a stunning set in a condition which in the eyes of many collectors represents a particularly outstanding collecting value. There is always an extremely strong demand for classic sets that are impressive yet are still relatively affordable compared to higher-graded alternatives. We have selected three cards from this set to be graded by SGC. Keys: #1 Robinson (Vg-Ex+), 27 Campanella (Vg-Ex), 37 Mathews (SGC EX 60), 41 Slaughter (Ex-Mt), 54 Feller (Ex+), 61 Wynn SP (pencil indentation on front, otherwise Vg-Ex), 62 Irvin (Ex+), 76 Reese (Ex), 77 Mize (Ex), 78 Schoendienst (Vg-Ex+), 81 Black SP (Ex), 82 Mantle (SGC VG/EX+ 55), 86 Martin (Vg-Ex), 104 Berra (Nr/Mt), 114 Rizzuto (Ex), 119 Sain SP (Ex+), 138 Kell (Vg-Ex), 147 Spahn (Vg-Ex), 149 DiMaggio (Vg-Ex+), 151 Wilhelm (Ex), 162 Kluszewski (Vg-Ex), 191 Kiner (Vg-Ex), 207 Ford (Ex-Mt), 220 Paige (Vg-Ex+), 228 Newhouser (Ex+), 244 Mays (SGC VG 40), 246 Face (Ex), 254 Roe (color added), 258 Gilliam SP (Vg-Ex+), 263 Podres SP (Ex+), 264 Woodling (Vg-Ex), 265 Jensen SP (Ex), 273 Haddix SP (Vg+), 280 Bolling (Vg-Ex+). This is an exceptionally attractive set, far above average for this issue, with tremendous eye-appeal across the board. Total: 274 cards. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000/$3,000. SOLD FOR $7,702.50
