1951 Bowman #305 Willie Mays Rookie SGC NM 84
Starting Bid - $1,000.00, Sold For - $3,258.75
Graded NM 84 by SGC. Extremely highly graded example of one of card collecting's great classics, and Willie Mays' first and true rookie card. The 1951 Bowman of Willie Mays has long been universally recognized as one of the most famous and desirable of all baseball cards. In addition to being one of the two key cards of the 1951 Bowman set, Mays is also part of the scarce high-number series of the set (#253-324). This is a magnificent card! The offered example is perfectly crisp and clean, with strong corners, brilliant colors, and centered slightly to the left. The reverse is also perfectly crisp and clean, with light toning and no gum or wax staining which so frequently affects 1951 Bowmans. This is an exceptionally attractive ultra high-grade example of Willie Mays' rookie card, one of the most highly prized of all postwar cards. The equivalent SMR value in the assigned grade is $3,500. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000+. SOLD FOR $3,258.75
