1951 Topps Red Back Wax Box with 107 Unopened Packs!
Starting Bid - $1,000.00, Sold For - $11,850.00
Near-complete unopened box of 1951 Topps Red Back wax packs, containing 107 of the 120 packs designed to be included. Newly discovered after more than sixty years, each pack contains two cards from the very first year Topps issued a major baseball-card set. No one could have possibly known that the cards issued by Topps in this year would revolutionize the baseball-card business, and in just a few years that Topps would dominate the field. It had to start somewhere - and it did - with this box and many others like it that stocked store shelves in dozens of candy stores across the land. The 1951 Red Backs set features fifty-two players and includes the following eight Hall of Famers: Berra, Rizzuto, Wynn, Kiner, Feller, Spahn, Snider, and Irvin. While it is impossible to provide guarantees with reference to grading of unopened material, there is, of course, the very real possibility that within this box are pristine cards of these stars. All the many other stars in the set are also included. The packs are in Ex-Mt to Nr/Mt condition overall with approximately eighteen displaying minor edge tears, twelve loosened seals to the point that the wax paper can be peeled back to reveal the cards, and seven showing soiling or discoloration. The box is a double-lid design (the top lid comes off and the perforated fold-back lid can be seen). Both sections of the display box are present. The outside shell is in poor condition with extreme wear and missing sections. The perforated inside top lid has become detached and is in Good condition while the base of the box is also in poor condition due to paper loss and a hole on the back side. Despite the condition issues of the box, the packs have remained relatively undisturbed and make this near-complete box a fantastic relic from the earliest days of Topps and the "golden era" of baseball cards. Reserve $1,000. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $11,850.00
