Two 1933 R319 Goudey #79 Red Faber Color-Process Proof Cards

Starting Bid - $300.00, Sold For - $592.50

Offered are two unique color-process proofs of card #79 Red Faber. One proof is a blue-and-white color-process card of Faber, with the type setting "Urban (Red) Faber" along the top left and the copyright logo in the lower left. The second proof card is a near complete color process, with a multicolor background showing Faber on a baseball diamond and "Big League Chewing Gum" advertising strip along bottom, but missing all black type. As is always the case with color-process proof cards, each has a blank back. Collectors are used to seeing printer's proofs for relatively modern sets, but examples from classic vintage sets such as Goudey are virtually nonexistent. These cards were originally part of two complete 24-card Goudey color-process sheets discovered in the early 1980s, which at that time were professionally cut so that they could be displayed in pairs. Today these pairs rarely surface. These are the only Goudey color-process cards of Red Faber (#79) known to exist. An extraordinary and unique pair of color-process cards, used by Goudey's printer for proofing during the production process for its classic 1933 series. Both encapsulated "Authentic" by SGC. Total: 2 cards. Reserve $300. Estimate $500+. SOLD FOR $592.50
