1934 R304 Al Demaree Die-Cut #5 Sam Byrd PSA MINT 9 (The ONLY R304 MINT 9 Ever Graded!)

Starting Bid - $300.00, Sold For - $948.00

Graded MINT 9 by PSA. This is the only MINT 9 ever graded by PSA from this set (with none higher), of any player, out of 253 examples recorded! R304 Demaree Die-Cut of Sam Byrd of the New York Yankees. Issued by Chicago’s Dietz Gum Company in 1934, Demaree die-cuts are among the rarest of all 1930s gum issues. Their unique design combines black-and-white photographic player portraits with cartoon body art drawn by former Major League pitcher Al Demaree (hence, the name “Demaree Die-Cuts”). The fragile design of all die-cut cards and the easily broken tabs at the base of R304s that allow them to stand, make complete, high-grade examples all the rarer. Exactly ten cards have ever been graded Near Mint or better by PSA. This example is the epitome of a MINT card, with a flawless, crisp image, bright white stock, and not even a trace of wear along the edges of the fragile die-cut. This card has survived in perfect condition for almost eighty years and is a true condition rarity! This is an extremely attractive, ultra high grade example from one of the rarest and most condition-sensitive of all 1930s gum-card issues. Reserve $300. Estimate $500+. SOLD FOR $948.00
