1929 R315 "Portraits and Action" Babe Ruth SGC NM+ 86

Starting Bid - $500.00, Sold For - $2,666.25

Graded NM+ 86 by SGC. One of two examples at this level with only three graded higher. High-grade example of Babe Ruth from the R315 "Portraits and Action" series. The R315 set has been referred to as the "Portraits and Action" series ever since Jefferson Burdick named it in the 1930s in his first American Card Catalog . It is unknown exactly how they were issued or whether this is a formal name provided by the issuer. This is an extremely attractive example, bordering on a much higher grade, with four razor-sharp corners, outstanding picture quality, and perfectly clean and bright, both front and back, with a very tiny age spot on the blank reverse mentioned only for the sake of accuracy. R315s are found printed on several different-quality stocks with this example printed on the highest-quality black-and-white style stock. Magnificent high-grade example in all respects of this 1928 card featuring Babe Ruth in a classic swing thru pose. One of Babe Ruth's few cards dating from the late 1920s, in extraordinary NM+ condition. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000++. SOLD FOR $2,666.25
