1919 Zeenut PCL Collection (68) Including Dazzy Vance Rookie

Starting Bid - $300.00, Sold For - $1,777.50

Collection of sixty-eight different cards from the 1919 Zeenut issue featuring Pacific Coast League players. The 1919 Zeenut set is comprised of players from eight different teams (Los Angeles, Oakland, Portland, Sacramento, Salt Lake City, San Francisco, Seattle, and Vernon). Large groups of cards from an early year of Zeenuts such as this are very rarely seen. All 1919 Zeenuts are scarce, and this collection includes three special highlights: Dazzy Vance (rookie card of the Hall of Famer before his days with the Major League Brooklyn Robins), Bob Meusel (of special note due to his substantial career in the Majors, including as a key member of the 1927 Yankees' "Murderers' Row"), and Pinelli (regarded by many as a particularly rare card in the set). This is an original-owner collection, consigned to this auction directly from the family of the gentleman who collected these as a child. All cards in this collection are technically Poor, showing significant wear. At least fifteen of the cards would be classified as Authentic only due to their extensive wear and a thick shellack applied to eight cards. As is usually the case with Zeenuts, the coupon at the bottom of each card has been clipped away, as intended, to be redeemed for valuable prizes. This is a sizable collection of desirable early Zeenuts with three significant highlights. Total: 68 cards. Reserve $300. Estimate $500+.
