1914 and 1915 E145 Cracker Jack SGC "Authentic" Collection (4) Including Christy Mathewson

Starting Bid - $500.00, Sold For - $3,851.25

Collection of four E145 Cracker Jack cards featuring Hall of Famers Eddie Collins, Sam Crawford, and Christy Mathewson, as well as Federal League star Hal Chase. Each card in this collection has been graded and encapsulated by SGC as "Authentic" (submitted by REA) due to evidence of slight trimming. Cracker Jacks have always been (and will always be) one of the most popular of all vintage-card issues, and the Hall of Famers in the set are naturally the most prized of all. 1) 1914 E145 Cracker Jack: #14 Sam Crawford. 2-4) 1915 E145 Cracker Jack: #7 Edward Collins, 88 Christy Mathewson, and 99 Hal Chase. These particular cards were purchased by our consignor in the years 1989 to 1991 (approximately), before the advent of professional grading, described as NM-MT, and selected for their outstanding appearance. (Interesting provenance note: The Mathewson was purchased by our consignor in Richard Wolfers' September 4, 1991, "Treasures of the Diamond" auction, appearing as Lot #21 and selling for $6,000). The four offered cards are all stunning examples, displaying bold red backgrounds and bright, white borders. The reverses are boldly printed, clean, and free of staining. This is an outstanding group of four important cards from this classic prewar set which provide an excellent opportunity to acquire superb examples at a fraction of the cost of higher-graded examples. Total: 4 cards. Reserve $500. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $3,851.25
