1911 M116 Sporting Life Honus Wagner - Pastel

Starting Bid - $300.00, Sold For - $2,962.50

Graded VG+ 45 by SGC. Very attractive mid-grade example of one of the most famous cards of the 1910 era: Hall of Famer Honus Wagner from the very popular M116 Sporting Life series. This card was one of the highlights of a large totally untouched collection of 1910-era tobacco cards consigned to this auction, which was saved for decades by the family of the original owner. This card is popular on many counts, including the fact that the portrait is so similar in appearance to the famous T206 Wagner and dates from the same era. Honus Wagner, of course, is one of the key cards of the series. The card is bright and clean, with a striking, crisp image, no creases, and evenly rounded corners. The advertising on the reverse for Sporting Life is printed boldly in blue. The centering is ever so slightly low towards the bottom border. This is a very attractive example in strong Vg+ condition of one of Honus Wagner's most classic cards. Reserve $300. Estimate $500+. SOLD FOR $2,962.50
