1887 N172 Old Judge Ned Williamson and Mascot - Extreme Rarity!

Starting Bid - $300.00, Sold For - $2,962.50

Graded GOOD 30 by SGC. 1888 N172 Old Judge card featuring one of the most unusual and memorable images to ever appear on a baseball card: Chicago star player Ned Williamson and the Chicago White Stockings mascot, Willie Hahm (#502-7 pose). The pose of this card makes it one of the most interesting images to appear in the Old Judge set. The youngster is dressed in a miniature Chicago White Stockings uniform, identical in every detail to those worn by the players. The mascot was even popular enough to warrant his own card in the N172 Old Judge set! In addition to being appreciated for its noteworthy image, this card has been revered for decades by advanced N172 collectors for its extreme rarity. This is an extraordinarily rare card in the Old Judge set. In fact, this is the first example we can ever recall offering. This is a tremendous example of one of the N172 Old Judge set's most interesting rarities. The photo quality is reasonably strong (particularly for this card) and above average for an N172 Old Judge. The card has evenly rounded corners, with some insignificant scattered surface chipping in the middle portion of the card. The front is fairly clean with just a tiny spot to the left of Ned's head. The reverse has very light soiling. This is a very attractive example of one of the most unusual and memorable of all nineteenth-century cards. Reserve $300. Estimate $500/$1,000+.
