1910 "Orange Borders" Ty Cobb

Starting Bid - $400.00, Sold For - $1,303.50

Graded GOOD 30 by SGC. For many decades this rare set has been referred to by advanced collectors as "Orange Borders." In 1910 the "Geo. Davis Co., Inc." and the "P.R. Warren Co." of Massachusetts together issued this striking and extremely rare package-design set, with two cards featured on each box of "American Sports - Candy and Jewelry" (one on the front, and one on the back). It is rare to find even common-player sample cards from this issue, let alone Hall of Famer Ty Cobb, as featured here. Ty Cobb is by far the key card to the set. This is a very attractive card. In GOOD condition, very clean both front and back, with an irregular cut along three of the borders (as expected since they were handcut by kids), and a vertical crease down the center. The blank back of the card is also clean. This is a very attractive example of one of the most elusive of all Ty Cobb cards. Reserve $400. Estimate $800+. SOLD FOR $1,303.50
