1910 T209 Contentnea First Series Near-Complete SGC-Graded Set (14 of 16)

Starting Bid - $1,000.00, Sold For - $3,555.00

Extremely rare near-complete set of 1910 T209 Contentnea First Series cards, entirely graded by SGC (all submitted by REA). Missing only two cards for completion (Cooper and Sisson). These cards were among the highlights of a very substantial, totally untouched collection of 1910-era tobacco cards consigned to this auction (all cards from this collection appear in several lots throughout the auction), which was saved for decades by the family of the original owner. This is a very attractive low- to mid-grade near set of these extremely striking 1910-era tobacco cards featuring players from the Virginia League, Carolina Association, and Eastern League. The complete SGC condition composite follows: One EX 60: Hoffman. One VG+ 45: Walsh. Six VG 40: Bourquise, Cowell, Crockett, Fullenwider, Lane, and Martin. Two GOOD+ 35: Armstrong and McGeehan. Two GOOD 30: Gilmore and Stubbe. Two FAIR 20: Booles (chips of paper loss on the lower left corner) and Pope (heavy creases). Don't be fooled by the low technical grades. This is a great-looking set! Every card is bright and crisp, with vibrant colors, and flawless registration. T209 Contentnea First Series cards are rarely offered as a complete set (minus two), and are highly prized by both minor-league collectors and tobacco-card collectors. Total: 14 cards. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000++. SOLD FOR $3,555.00
