1889 N173 Old Judge Cabinet Cal Broughton SGC EX 60

Starting Bid - $500.00, Sold For - $1,777.50

Graded EX 60 by SGC. Incredible, newly-discovered 1889 N173 Goodwin Old Judge cabinet example of Cal Broughton, St. Paul infielder (pose #42-5; catch, hands by R/thigh). This exceptional cabinet is the first example graded to date by either SGC or PSA. The image on this card is extremely bold, with phenomenal contrast and tremendous detail, and only a few tiny age spots present on the front (entirely unobtrusive and mentioned only for the sake of accuracy). Very bright, crisp, and clean, both front and back, with a small one-inch long wrinkle on the reverse accounting for the technical grade on what is otherwise a strong NM cabinet. Recently discovered in an old family album in Minnesota, this is one of two cabinets that have been beautifully preserved since the year of issue (the other appears as a separate lot). This is an outstanding sample from one of the most revered and substantial of all nineteenth-century baseball-card issues. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000+. SOLD FOR $1,777.50
