1966 Topps "Batman - Series A" Unopened Wax Box (24 Packs)

Starting Bid - $1,000.00, Sold For - $4,147.50

Extremely rare complete unopened wax box from the 1966 Topps "Batman - Series A" issue. This box houses twenty-four five-cent wax packs, each containing five cards and a stick of gum, for a total of 120 cards. Batman took the world by storm in 1966 with the introduction of the wildly popular Batman television series. Topps joined the bandwagon with several series of card sets devoted to the Caped Crusader. This classic 44-card set, the second in the Batman series, features brilliantly illustrated scenes of Batman and Robin in action as they protect Gotham City. The set is oftentimes referred to as the "Red Bat" series as a small red Batman logo appears on the front of each card. The offered wax box has been beautifully preserved throughout the years. The interior packs all present Nr/Mt-Mt, with vibrant color illustrations of Batman and Robin on the front of each pack. The display box is also in very high grade with only very minimal handling wear visible. The original label indicating this is a second-series box is intact, and the die-cut top panel, intended to be punched out for store display, is completely unpunched. While it is impossible to provide guarantees with reference to grading of unopened material, there is, of course, the very real possibility that within this box are Mint or Gem Mint cards from this set. This is a very rare wax box, surviving in extraordinary condition, from this popular 1960s Topps nonsport issue. Total: 24 packs. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,500+. SOLD FOR $4,147.50
