1966 Topps "Batman - Bat Laffs" Unopened Wax Box (24 Packs)

Starting Bid - $1,000.00, Sold For - $9,480.00

Extremely rare complete unopened wax box from the 1966 Topps "Batman - Bat Laffs" issue. This box houses twenty-four five-cent wax packs, each containing four cards and a stick of gum, for a total of ninety-six cards. Batman took the world by storm in 1966 with the introduction of the wildly popular Batman television series. Topps joined the bandwagon with several series of card sets devoted to the Caped Crusader. This classic 55-card set features crisp, photographic images of various scenes directly from the television series starring Adam West as Batman. The reverse of each card contains a small puzzle as well as the bat-themed joke series entitled "Bat Laffs." A caption for the depicted scene is also included on many cards. The offered wax box has been beautifully preserved throughout the years. The interior packs all present Nr/Mt-Mt with black-and-white images of Batman and Robin (as depicted by the television actors) on the front of each pack. The display box is also in very high grade with only very minimal handling wear visible. A small, one-inch edge tear is visible near the lower right corner of the top panel. While it is impossible to provide guarantees with reference to grading of unopened material, there is, of course, the very real possibility that within this box are Mint or Gem Mint cards from this set. This is a very rare wax box, surviving in extraordinary condition, from this popular 1960s Topps nonsport issue. Total: 24 packs. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,500+. SOLD FOR $9,480.00
