1938 R1 Goudey "Action Gum" Complete Set (96)

Starting Bid - $200.00, Sold For - $711.00

Extremely attractive complete 96-card set of R1 "Action Gum." Issued by Goudey in the late 1930s, this series features colorful illustrations of battle scenes and military equipment along with detailed descriptions of the scene on the reverse. The reverse also heralded the set as "The Greatest Card Series Ever Produced" at the bottom of each card alongside advertising for the Goudey Gum Company. This set is incredibly popular among nonsport collectors due to its detailed and bright artwork and interesting subject matter. Condition is 85% Ex to Ex-Mt and 15% Vg-Ex or lesser (including a few hand-cut). The presence of a few hand-cut examples, coupled with very slight variations in size on the remaining cards, may suggest that these cards were cut from a sheet at some point after initial production. Many Goudey sheets, both baseball and nonsport, existed within the hobby into the 1970s and were cut down to produce presentable high-grade sets. We have graded the cards without respect to this possibility (except where obvious), but if professionally graded, some of the cards may not receive numerical grades. This is a very attractive complete set of this classic 1930s nonsport issue. Total: 96 cards. Reserve $200. Estimate $400+. SOLD FOR $711.00
