Circa 1910 Nonsport Silks Complete Set Collection (5 set, 78 silks)

Starting Bid - $200.00, Sold For - $355.50

Collection of five 1910-era complete and near-complete sets of nonsport tobacco silks. In the early part of the century, tobacco companies issued silks as premiums. These premiums were often more ornate than standard tobacco cards and have come to be appreciated by collectors for their strong aesthetics and fantastic presentation. They are also much more delicate than traditional cards and obtaining complete sets in top condition, as these offered sets are, is especially difficult. Silks are very difficult to grade because they are not like standard trading cards, but these silks are in overall Excellent or better condition with a few lesser as noted below. This collection consists of the following: 1) S55 "Bathing Girls" Complete Set (6): each measures approximately 6-1/4 by 4-3/4 inches, two with light creases. 2) S56 "Bathing Girls" Near-Complete Set (23/25): missing Nantasket and Magnolia, each measures approximately 2 by 3 inches, one with light crease and one with staining on front. 3) S75 Zira Cigarettes "Famous Queens" Near-Complete Set (14/15): missing Catherine II and includes Esther, Yiddish Queen variation, each measures 2-1/2 by 3-1/8 to 3-1/4 inches, four with light creases. 4) S79 Nebo Cigarettes "Rulers" Complete Set (10): each measures 3-1/4 by 5 inches, two with light creases. 5) S80 Fatima "Women of Ancient Eqypt" Complete Set (25): each measures approximately 2 by 3 inches, three with light creases. As expected with silks, varying degrees of fraying is present throughout these sets, but none of the important central images are affected. This is a very attractive group of desirable premium silks from the early twentieth century that will make an outstanding addition to any nonsport collection. Total: 5 sets containing 78 silks. Reserve $200. Estimate $400+. SOLD FOR $355.50
